A problem I've been having with OA

There's a problem I have on my PC only when I play OA..
it causes my PC to freeze and the sound gets stuck and sounds like a Dubstep song, also on the screen the textures screw up and  there are a lot of green and pink pixels appearing

I'm running it on 32bit Win7

I took pictures of the screen





Does anyone know how to fix this ?

I done some wrongs with my cfg.

I think the best way is to show us your cfg and our specialists (Kraig, Adri, Mario, Dex) can help you

If you want you can send me your cfg via PN... so noone can copy it and I post it in privat forum (covered).
But if you have no problem... you can post it directly here.

I spoke with you a bit about yesterday and I remember you said that all drivers for graphiccard are up-to-date. But I have a question: When you open OA and get this issue...what happens when you minimize OA window? Do you see the same issue also on your desktop?


Other question: Did you try to run a clean OA-Installation? Just save the 2 OA-folders from 'Programs' and 'appdata/Roaming' in another place for backup. Then download new OA and run it. If problem is away, then your config or some file can be your problem.

Try it out and tell us what happened, so maybe we can find the problem.

let's see if there is something in the autoexec.cfg wrong. at least exclude that.

I looked it up on google and some people said it could be caused by over heating - which was believable since it's been really hot here last 2 days (and that's about time when this problem started happening), they said to fix it I just have to clean the dust inside my PC, and I did it, but the problem is still happening..

The problem occurs only when I'm playing Open Arena, or when I played Open Arena and closed it after some time it will happen on desktop, if I don't open the game it doesn't ever glitch..

Also sometimes when it happens it tends to turn screen black for a bit, like the monitor turns off..

And when it's frozen if I keep it frozen after a bit it gives me a blue screen saying that there was error and that the PC is shutting down 
in Event Viewer it shows Critical Error: Kernal Power

I can't find autoexec.cfg files anywhere on my PC, and what exaclty CFG file do I have to show you guys ? From App/roaming/openarena ? It shows me like 10 CFG files over there.. : P

I downloaded Open Arena 0.8.8 but when I try opening it, it gives me a error something like "invalid default cfg file"
So I found a Open arena 0.8.1 zip in my downloads folder, and I unzipped it but when I open the game it has some bigger problems like the buttons are gone and for some reason the Open Arena logo is burning with red fire not blue.. Strange since this is exactly same zip I used for the other Open Arena I have ..

So how the hell does this happen?

I've been on the new client (with broken GUI parts) for about a hour and the issue with graphic and freezing didn't happen yet, while on the old client it happened every few minutes.. It looks like cfg files were the issue

problems of windows, i can't say, because i don't use winzozz for years.

i'm reminded, that in your case can be a video driver problem that don't work perfectly with the kernel of winzozz7. maybe it's time to change the operating system (no microzozz)? so take advantage to clean up what's openarena.

It looks terrible.
If you want, I can take a look to your OA-folders and configs with "teamviewer" next time I see you. Ok?

So.. I've noticed yet another issue..

Adriano you know how my connection lags and tends to crash when I'm playing OA ? Well it doesn't happen when I don't play OA.. I was blaming it on my provider but it seems that the provider isn't the issue but something else..
I keep getting connection interrupted and then my internet crashes and gives me a "Problem connecting to DNS server" error in troubleshoot.. I have 2 PCs sharing the internet connection, my brother is on the other PC and he is getting annoyed with it and tells me to stop playing OA..

Good thing is
I was playing on the different client today and yesterday, and my computer hasn't frozen yet, but sometimes it shows few green and pink pixels.. This is great though since on the other client PC was freezing ever 5-10 mins..

I don't have teamviewer, but I looked for cfg files in my OA folder (app/roaming/open arena) and all i found is q3config.cfg which shows bunch of binds and setas .. is that what you need ?

I removed everything OA related and dled OA 0.8.8 (lost all my setup - binds and even sensitivity, feels so different now)

I was playing it for like a hour and there weren't any issues happening but at some point my PC just turned off together with router..

Hmm that is strange, maybe it overheated?
As you already did, I wanted to delete all OA related (but first save  it on another place) and look for wrong files etc. .
You can send me (here or via private message PM) your old cfg if you want, so I can pickup your sensitivity and fov and binds and I make you a new one.

Eh it's clearly not the issue in cfg files, since it happens even with the new cfg files,
but I sent you PM with the cfg files (baseoa and aftershock) just incase

the root folder where it should be the autoexec.cfg is only baseoa.

Kraig designed this CFG for new player... this is a good and stable CFG.
I personally like to play with lower quality... if you want I can send you my CFG with my commands and you can try it (only if you want.. I can send it this evening).

if you want, try r_picmip to 3 or 4 for this cfg.

I couldn't stand the different in the settings from the last cfg, so I decided to use my old one - except I lowered the Picmip to 3 or 4 (forgot which one exactly..)

and it's working perfectly.. no lag nor freezing.. 

oh I also opened my PC and I have an actual fan (for people) pointed towards the PC, so it's doing good

I just played like 4 games in row 1v1 all rockets and won all 4, had one really close was 5-7 for the opponent (since he started from 0-4) but I caught up and won

ok so I had a guy come over and see the issue, 

apparently it's not caused by over heating since max GPU reaches is 60C, and point where PCs crash is 20C above, at 80C+..

he said the problem could be with power or system..


So I won't be on for few days probably, since I won't have PC until it's fixed..
